John McAtee has been woodturning since the 1960s. He was introduced to
it by his landlord, James Oliver, while still in college and spent a number
of years building spinning wheels as a hobby.
Following graduation, John was a mathematics teacher for five years in Bloomington, Illinois where he authored a book on differential calculus, introduced classroom computing (1967) through GE/Dartmouth timesharing systems and traveled throughout Europe. Originally from Illinois, John and the family moved to New England in 1978 to follow the technology boom of that era. Having been into computers since college days at Illinois State University, he has worked for a number of high-tech companies in the area and received a patent for process control software. Currently semi-retired, he is now more active in the woodturning community. His hobbies and interests continue to be woodworking, fishing, motorcycles and building database-driven internet applications. He is also a member of the American Woodturning Association and C.N.E.W. |
